Graeme Smith on MS Dhoni: Graeme Smith, commissioner of the T20 Franchise League (SA20) started in South Africa this year, wants to see former Indian captain MS Dhoni (MS Dhoni) playing in his league. He said this in response to a question. Graeme Smith said that if he ever gets a chance, he would like to talk to Dhoni about it.
The first season of SA20 is on. 6 franchises are participating in this. The ownership of all these 6 franchises is with the different teams of IPL only. Chennai Super Kings also have their own team in SA20. However, despite being associated with IPL franchises, due to BCCI rules, no Indian player can be a part of foreign leagues. To participate in foreign league, an Indian player has to end his association with BCCI completely. That is, then he can neither play for Team India nor participate in domestic cricket.
However, retired Indian players have more chances to join foreign leagues as they will not have any problem in ending all tie-ups with BCCI. In such a situation, players like MS Dhoni can be a part of foreign leagues. On this issue, when Graeme Smith was asked a question about Dhoni in a conversation with Hindustan Times, the former Proteas batsman’s answer was full of enthusiasm.
‘It would be great to have a player like that in the league’
Graeme Smith said, ‘To have that kind of player in your league is fantastic. But as I have said earlier also that we have always been working with BCCI and also respect them. We have a very good working relationship with him. We stay connected with the Indian Board and learn a lot. In such a situation, according to the rules of BCCI, if things go in the right direction, then I would like to see Dhoni here.
‘If I get a chance, I will talk to Mahi’
Smith said, ‘We want to make SA20 a very competitive cricket league. A player like Dhoni will definitely increase the value of this league. He still has the ability to perform well and has maintained himself in this profession for a long time. If he is a part of this league, he will bring a different level in it. If ever I get a chance, I will definitely talk to Mahi about it.
