Women’s Premier League Auction 2023: After a long wait, finally the first auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is going to happen today (February 13). The auction will start at 2.30 pm at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. BCCI has selected only women auctioneers for WPL auction. Mallika Advani has been given this responsibility. In this auction, a total of 409 players from 15 countries will be bid on, out of which only 75 to 90 players are going to shine.
246 Indian players in auction
About 1525 players from across the country and the world had registered for the WPL 2023 auction, out of which 409 players were shortlisted. Out of these 409 players, 246 are Indian and 163 are foreign players. Out of 163 foreign players, 8 players are also from associate countries. Out of the 409 players who have been selected for the auction, 202 players have played at the international level, while 199 players have not yet made their debut in international cricket.
Most all-rounders
The number of all-rounders is the highest in this auction. 127 all-rounders from India and 73 from abroad will be part of this auction. After this comes the number of bowlers. 51 bowlers from India and 42 bowlers from abroad have been shortlisted for the auction. Among batsmen, 42 players from India and 29 from abroad and among wicketkeepers, 26 players from India and 19 from abroad are named in the auction list.
A franchise can choose a maximum of 18 players.
There will be 5 teams in the first season of WPL. In such a situation, this time in the auction, the franchisees of these five teams will choose their respective squads. Each franchise can keep 15 to 18 players in its squad. In such a situation, at least 75 and maximum 90 players will be auctioned. Each franchise can buy a maximum of 6 foreign players in its squad.
Total 60 crores in auction purse
There will be 12-12 crore rupees for the auction in the purse of each franchise. That means a total of 60 crore rupees will be at stake. It is mandatory for every franchisee to spend at least Rs 9-9 crore in the auction. By the way, it is expected that the purse of all the franchisees can be completely empty during the auction. The base price of 24 players in this auction is Rs 50 lakh. At the same time, the base price of 30 players has been kept at Rs 40 lakh. After this, there are also players with base price of 30, 20 and 10 lakhs.
Money can rain on these players
Among the Indian players Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh can be showered heavily with money. On the other hand, among foreign players, the bids of veteran players like Tahila McGrath, Sophie Devine, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Parry, Nat Shiver, Hayley Mathews, Shabnim Ismail, Beth Mooney and Sophie Ecclestone can go into crores.
