Milk Price Hike From Today For Buffalo Wholesale Milk In Mumbai Will Impact On Milk Products Too

Milk Costly: From today the month of March has started and you are getting to see many new changes as well. While domestic and commercial LPG prices have seen a change and have become costlier, ATF prices have seen a reduction today. Apart from this, there is such a local news which can be a cause of concern for the people of Mumbai city.

This milk became costlier by Rs 5 per liter in Mumbai

The wholesale prices of buffalo milk in Mumbai have increased by Rs 5 per liter since Tuesday midnight and this could create significant cascading effects on the entire food industry that depends on it as a raw material. The Mumbai Milk Producers’ Association (MMPA) had announced a steep hike in the wholesale price of buffalo milk last Friday. CK Singh, member of the executive committee of MMPA, said- The prices of bulk milk will increase from Rs 80 per liter to Rs 85 per liter and will be applicable till 31 August. This will be followed by a similar increase in the retail market for creamy fresh buffalo milk by over 3,000 retail vendors in Mumbai, which will now be available at around Rs 90 per liter from March 1, as against Rs 85 per litre.

Prices of these things will increase for common people

Common consumers will have to bear the brunt of these sharp hikes not only in the form of costlier plain milk, but also other milk products, which are consumed daily in households. MMPA Treasurer Abdul Jabbar Chawniwala said- This will affect the rates of a cup of tea-coffee-milkshake etc. served in restaurants, pavement vendors or small eateries.

Prices of many other milk products will increase

Both said that many other milk products like khoya, paneer, peda, sweets like barfi, some north Indian or Bengali sweets which are milk based may now witness a hike in prices. Mahesh Tiwari, head milkman of North Mumbai, said the price hike has come on the eve of certain festivals and wedding season, which will be affected by the increase in wholesale milk prices from Wednesday.

“The demand for milk and milk products increases by at least 30-35 per cent during festivals and even more for weddings and other social events and the new rates will be applicable,” he said. Singh said- In the next few months, there are festivals like Holi, Gudi Padwa, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Easter after Good Friday, Ramzan Eid and others, where the budget of the festival will have to be expanded.

Why milk prices were increased in Mumbai

Singh said – along with the increase in the prices of milch animals as well as their food items like Dana, Tuvar-Chuni, Chana-Chuni, Makai-Chuni, Udad-Chuni, Green grass, Rice grass, Grass needed to be increased to compensate whose prices have seen a huge increase of 15-25 per cent in the last few months. Kasim Kashmiri, general secretary of MMPA, said, “Inflation has become uncontrollable, many things used to make buffalo fodder are almost ruined, but we have to buy them from the market at high prices.” Hence the increase in milk prices was inevitable, though it was done reluctantly.

If prices increase in Mumbai, will prices increase in other cities as well?

Singh says that generally, any movement in milk prices in Mumbai is usually followed by an increase in milk prices in the rest of the country. On an average, Mumbai consumes five million liters of buffalo milk per day, of which over seven million are supplied by MMPA through its farms spread in and around the country’s commercial capital to dairies and a chain of neighborhood retailers. is done from

This is the second hike after September 2022.

This is the second major hike by the MMPA after September 2022, when the wholesale prices of buffalo milk were raised from Rs 75 per liter to Rs 80 per litre, straining the household budget of poor and middle-class families. On the other hand, in February 2023, all major cow milk producer unions in Maharashtra as well as other major branded producers have increased the prices of cow milk by at least Rs 2 per litre.
