History of National Tourism Day 2023

World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September in most countries of the world. But in India National Tourism Day is celebrated on 25 January. National Tourism Day was started in 1948 soon after independence due to its importance in terms of income. Its first headquarter was kept in Delhi, but later it was shifted to Mumbai. Three years later, in 1951, two more offices of this committee were opened in Chennai (Madras) and Kolkata (Calcutta). In 1998, the Department of Tourism was established under the Ministry of Tourism and Communications.

To create awareness on these issues, National Tourism Day is declared every year by the Government of India.
