Bryce Leatherwood Pays Homage to Parents’ Love Story in ‘The One My Daddy Found’

• Bryce Leatherwood’s latest single is inspired by his parents’ relationship
• “We wrote that song in no time, and it’s been one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written,” he says
• The Voice winner is currently out on his Neon Does tour

Bryce Leatherwood is a mama’s boy, and darn proud of it.

“I just hope to find a woman like my mother,” Leatherwood, 24,  tells PEOPLE while traveling to yet another date on his Neon Does tour. “[My mom] is an angel and I just want to find one like the woman my daddy found.”

It’s a sentiment that the Georgia native expressed back in March of 2023, while the season 22 winner of The Voice found himself in the writing room with legendary songwriters Lynn Hutton and Chris Dubois.

“I had just met this girl who I thought was everything in the world and she still is,” Leatherwood explains. “When you get into a room to write, a lot of times you just talk about things in your life. So, when I’m writing with older fellas that may have been doing this for a while, they give me their life wisdom.”

And the wisdom they shared on that day was simple: they needed to write “The One My Daddy Found.”

“I think the [songs] that just come out of thin air like that are the best ones,” explains Leatherwood, who released his debut single “The Finger” last year. “We wrote that song in no time, and it’s been one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”

Within the heartwarming song are many lyrics that specifically describe Leatherwood’s mother completely. “My mom does know how to back the boat down the boat ramp, and she doesn’t mind a kiss on the cheek,” Leatherwood says with a laugh about the words of the song. 

Another one thrilled with how “The One My Daddy Found” turned out happens to be the girl that inspired it in the first place. “She is a blessing in my life,” Leatherwood says of his girlfriend, whose identity he prefers to keep prviate. “She brings a lot of happiness and a lot of peace to my life in a time where everything’s crazy. This is a job that I love to do, but she just calms me down. She gets my butt in the [church] pew, so that helps a lot too.”

And while the music video for “The One My Daddy Found” does not include Leatherwood’s mom or girlfriend, it does tell the story of his parents’ precious 25-year love story. 

“The music video was based around the idea of lasting relationships,” Leatherwood tells PEOPLE.  “My inspiration was my mom and dad and I’m very lucky that they’re still together. Everyone wants a love that lasts and that was the vision for my first music video.”

And while Leatherwood says he isn’t quite ready to share his girlfriend’s name with his “rabid” fanbase, he does appreciate the intense love they show him every time he gets on stage.

“The connection with your fans is literally the most important part of country music,” Leatherwood says. “I’ve stayed after shows for hours signing stuff and interacting with fans, giving them whatever they want. I think giving back early to your fans will create a great fan base that you’ll have for the rest of your life.”

Leatherwood also says he hopes to have former his former Voice coach Blake Shelton in his corner for the rest of his life too. But he isn’t getting his hopes up that the two will reunite anytime soon.

“I know I can’t get him to come to those shows,” Leatherwood admits with a laugh. “He’s too busy hunting and fishing! One day I asked him, ‘You want to ever write some songs?’ And he grabbed me by the shoulder, looked at me, and said, ‘Son, not a shot. I’m going to be on my property doing absolutely nothing fun.'”
