Videocon loan fraud case: The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Videocon founder Venugopal Dhoot. Dhoot was arrested by the CBI on 26 December 2022. On 13 January 2023, the Bombay High Court had reserved its order after the CBI filed its reply in the ICICI Bank loan scam case.
In fact, Venugopal Dhoot’s lawyer had demanded cancellation of the FIR lodged in the alleged bank loan scam case. Dhoot had termed his arrest as illegal. Dhoot’s lawyer had told the court that there is 99 percent blockage in Dhoot’s heart. Due to such health reasons, a demand was made to grant him bail. During the last hearing, the counsel for Venugopal Dhoot raised the issue of arrest and asked why the arrest has been made after so many years.
The CBI had alleged that Venugopal Dhoot was not cooperating in the investigation and was not giving complete information. The CBI counsel said in the last hearing that Dhoot and Chanda Kochhar were making a systematic effort to deliberately not be present for questioning when the CBI wanted to conduct simultaneous questioning. Chanda Kochhar was arrested by the CBI on 23 December 2023. After this Venugopal Dhoot was asked to appear for questioning but he did not come. Called again on 25th December, he did not come and when he came on 26th December, he was giving wrong information and misleading. He was arrested by the CBI on the same day.
