Tish Cyrus Says She’s Had ‘Growth’ in Marriage to Dominic Purcell amid ‘Issues’

Tish Cyrus and Dominic Purcell are working through their astrological incompatibility.

On a new episode of her and daughter Brandi’s podcast Sorry We’re Stoned, Tish, 56, revealed that she and her husband, 54, have dealt with “issues” related to their differing personalities — but that she’s seen immense growth along the way.

“I was so scared when I first met Dom, my husband, which was not that long ago,” she quipped. “But it is crazy because I am a Taurus and he is an Aquarius, and every single thing I read said, ‘Don’t even do it. It is the absolute worst pairing.’”

Tish — who married the Prison Break actor in August — explained that she is very easily offended and often takes “things so personally.” Purcell, on the other hand, “is just very blunt — like, there is no warm and fuzzy.”

“I was an only child, I was adopted, so I was coddled a lot. So I kind of have needed that. But that’s just not who he is. He is not emotional,” said Tish. “And that could be a problem. But you know what, this is where I’ve grown, is like, I just feel like instead now of me getting so offended, because I respect and love him, that we have conversations. And instead [of] getting so upset and heated about it, and me not taking it personally, just letting him have an opinion. I’ve never been good at that.”

She continued: “These are definitely issues. But issues also, because I love him, that I’m dealing with.”

The star also noted that their relationship has forced her to “really grow,” and that the growth she’s seen since marrying the The Flash star “is crazy.”

Tish opened up to PEOPLE in February about the ways in which her husband empowers her, saying he “just encourages me to fly.”

“He is just like, ‘You’re the funniest, you’re the prettiest, you’re the sweetest, you’re the this — just show the world who you are,’ ” she said. “It has just empowered me in such a way that I’ve never felt before. It’s just been really great for me.”

On a recent episode of the podcast Call Her Daddy, Tish revealed that their relationship all started with an Instagram DM, and that she’d reached out to her “hall pass” Purcell in the wake of her 2022 divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus.

She said he responded within seconds, and admitted he’d had a longtime “crush” on the Cyrus matriarch.

The couple made their relationship Instagram official in November 2022, the same month Purcell proposed. They publicly announced their engagement in April 2023.

Tish’s latest podcast comes amid family drama; earlier this month, a source told PEOPLE that Tish’s daughter Noah, 24, had been casually seeing Purcell before his relationship with Tish.

“Noah and Dominic were seeing each other in a friends with benefits way, off and on. They stopped seeing each other and then Tish started something up,” the source said. “Tish knew he had been seeing Noah.”

“Tish never gave Noah the chance to talk about all of this before they got married,” added the insider.
