Sharon Stone Sued for $35,000 in Damages Over Alleged Car Crash

Sharon Stone is being sued for damages she allegedly caused in a fender bender that occurred last year. 

The Basic Instinct actress, 66, is being accused of driving at high speeds and making “unsafe” car maneuvers that caused her to crash into another car and injure a woman, according to a new filing obtained by PEOPLE.

The woman, Amanda Godepski, filed a motor vehicle complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, April 24, for property damage and personal injury. She claims the damages exceeded $35,000, and she is seeking compensatory damages in that amount.

A representative for Stone did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to court documents, the incident allegedly occurred on June 30, 2023, southbound in the U.S. Route 101 freeway off-ramp at Coldwater Canyon Avenue in Los Angeles.

Godepski claims that Stone had been “negligently owning, operating, driving, managing and maintaining a vehicle” at the time and struck her own vehicle, causing her to sustain “personal injuries and property damage.” 

“Defendant Sharon Vonne Stone caused the collision by driving too fast for traffic conditions and  making an unsafe turning movement into plaintiff’s lane of travel and colliding into plaintiff’s  vehicle,” the filing states.

The documents allege that Stone’s actions violated at least three California vehicle codes, including driving too fast for traffic conditions, unsafe turning movement and unsafe lane change.

Godepski checked off motor vehicle and general negligence as the cause behind the filing and said that she suffered “wage loss,” “property damage,” “general damage” and “loss of earning capacity.”

In addition to that, she said she had to pay off hospital and medical expenses as a result of the incident and suffered “emotional distress,” “economic damage” and “non-economic damage.”

This isn’t the first time Stone has been taken to court. In 2012, the actress was sued by her former nanny for violating labor laws and making derogatory comments about her ethnicity, though this lawsuit was eventually settled a year later, according to The Daily Mail. 

Stone also was involved in a bitter custody battle over her son Roan, 23, with ex-husband Phil Bronstein. She later revealed on the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast that she eventually lost custody of Roan due to her role in Basic Instinct, recalling that it physically “broke her heart” to lose custody of her child.
