We all must have traveled by train or rail at some point of time. Railways is one of the major means of transportation in India, which people have been using for years to travel to different parts of the country. Today the entire country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari is connected through this medium. (Photo Credit: Pexels)
Our country ranks fourth in the world in terms of railway network. With a length of approximately 65,000 km, Indian Railways is the largest in Asia and the second largest in the world under single management (Photo credit: pexels)
Lakhs of employees work here and crores of people travel to different parts of the country every day. The history of Indian Railways is many years old, but even today many of us do not know about it properly. (Photo Credit: Pexels)
Many of us have heard the train names EMU, MEMU and DEMU, but do you really know what they mean? Today we are going to tell you about them in detail. The Indian Railway Ministry itself gave information about these three types of trains. Know complete information about them. (Photo Credit: Pexels)
EMU train stands for Electric Multiple Unit Train. That means its engine is self-propelled. These trains usually run on short routes. The electricity required to run them is supplied through overhead wires. Such trains are more suitable for pollution free metro cities. Vande Bharat Express is a good example of a MU train (Photo credit: pexels)
MEMU i.e. Mainline Electric Multiple Unit is generally used for long distance routes. MEMU trains run on main routes and cover slightly longer distances than sub-urban sections. Like other trains, MEMU trains have a built-in engine and are powered by overhead power lines (Photo credit: pexels)
DEMU train, also known as diesel electric multiple unit, is a diesel-based engine train. It was used to replace relatively slow passenger trains on non-electrified railway sections. Other types of diesel trains include diesel-mechanical multiple unit (DMMU) and diesel-hydraulic multiple unit (DHMU) trains (Photo credit: pexels)
