Special Trains: Summer season is a time of high traffic for railways. Due to long school holidays, people start traveling from one place to another. Some go on vacation with their family and some go to their grandparents' and relatives' places. In such a situation, the maximum pressure increases on the Indian Railways, the lifeline of the country. People have to struggle for tickets. Besides this one also has to face huge crowd. However, this year the Railways has made better preparations to deal with these challenges. Railways is running a record number of special trains this year. 9111 trips of these special trains will be run. This figure is 2742 rounds more than last year. To meet the demand of passengers, Northern Railway will also run 778 rounds of special trains.
Last year Indian Railways had made 6369 trips
According to the information given by Northern Railway, 416 rounds of special trains were run last year. This year 362 more rounds will be fired. Last year, Indian Railways had made a total of 6369 trips, whereas this year this number has been increased to 9111 trips. Additional trains have been planned to connect major destinations across the country to ensure seamless travel on major rail routes. To reduce the rush of passengers during summer season by all zonal railways from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. Preparations have been made to operate these additional trips.
Special trains are run according to waiting list
Planning and operating additional trains is an ongoing process. For this, to assess the demand for trains running on a route, 24×7 inputs are taken from all communication channels like media reports, social media platforms, Railway Integrated Helpline number 139, besides details of waitlisted passengers in the PRS system. On the basis of this input, the number of trains and the number of trips are increased.
Drinking water and security arrangements were also increased
Besides, instructions have also been given to ensure availability of drinking water at railway stations during the summer season. Extensive arrangements have also been made to control crowding at railway stations. RPF personnel have been deployed to ensure queuing system for entry into general class coaches and also in the CCTV control room. To avoid stampede-like situation, Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been deployed on the foot over bridge.
