Bruce Alexander Grenfell Murray passed away: Former New Zealand Test cricketer, teacher, historian and author Bruce Alexander Grenfell Murray has passed away. He was 82 years old. He breathed his last late night on 10 January. He was famous in cricket as Bruce Murray. He played 13 Test matches for New Zealand. Bruce Murray was not limited to cricket only. He taught Hazare students, wrote many books. He belonged to the talented New Zealand family from which international women cricketers Amelia Kerr and Jess Kerr come.
Involved in first win against Pakistan
Right-handed batsman Bruce Murray played as an opener. Team players fondly called him ‘Bags’. Bruce Murray was part of New Zealand’s first Test win against Pakistan. In the year 1969, New Zealand defeated Pakistan in the Lahore Test. In this match, Pakistan scored 114 runs in the first innings and 208 runs in the second innings. At the same time, New Zealand achieved the target set for victory by scoring 241 runs in their first innings and 82 runs in 5 wickets in the second innings. Bruce Murray, who came to open the innings, scored 90 runs for the Kiwi team in the first innings and 8 runs in the second innings.

Both Amelia Kerr and Jess’ real sisters are well-known cricketers of the New Zealand women’s cricket team. Both these sisters have played dozens of matches for the Kiwi team. While Amelia plays as an all-rounder for the White Ferns, her sister Jess Kerr represents the team as a fast bowler. Jess can also play the role of wicketkeeping if needed. Late former cricketer Bruce Murray was the grandfather of both these women cricketers. At the same time, Robbie Kerr, father of Amelia and Jess, was a first class cricketer.

Bruce Murray played 13 Test matches for New Zealand. During this he scored 598 runs. His highest score in Test was 90 runs. He has five half-centuries to his name in Test cricket. He represented New Zealand in Tests from 1968 to 1971. Apart from this, Bruce Murray scored 6257 runs in 102 first class matches. In first class cricket, he scored 6 centuries and 43 half-centuries. During this, his highest score was 213 runs. Bruce Murray played only one List A match in which he scored 6 runs.
