While disclosing the cyber crime scheme, it has been told how cyber criminals earned 4 lakh dollars within two years by taking advantage of the online Apple Store feature Someone Else will Pick it up. In Indian currency this price will be around Rs 3 crore 33 lakh.
9to5mac report says that this scam has been named Poison Apple which starts in South Korea by selling Apple products cheaply on second-hand online platforms like Craigslist and eBay. Once a person is ready to buy a product, criminals use the stolen credit card details to purchase the product from Apple.
How do you become a victim of fraud?
Instead of choosing home delivery option, cyber criminals choose Someone Else will Pick it up option. Buyers are unaware of the scam and cyber criminals take advantage of it by using the QR code issued by the government. Regarding the scheme, it was also told in the Black Hat Asia Conference that this approach will be very profitable for cyber criminals.
If a criminal buys an iPhone 15 at a discounted price of $700 and sells it at the original price of $800, he will make a direct profit of $100. According to reports, this scheme focuses on South Korea and Japan, but researchers say that cyber criminals may be working from China. It is being said that the phishing websites were registered with a Chinese internet service provider.
