WPL Auction: In the first auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), 5 franchises had a total of Rs 60 crore in the auction purse. Each franchise had a limit of spending 12-12 crores. It was also mandatory for each of these franchisees to spend 9-9 crores. Although there was so much competition in the auction that 9 crores were far away, some franchisees’ entire wallets became empty.
Mumbai and UP teams have vacant slots
Mumbai Indians and UP Warriors spent their entire 12-12 crores. Both these teams were such that they could not even select 18-18 players in their squad. While Mumbai Indians bought 17 players, UP Warriors included 16 players in the squad. Let us tell you that in this auction, each franchise had a limit of selecting at least 15 and maximum 18 players.
These three franchisees saved a total of 50 lakhs
Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants have completed 18 players in their respective squads. Here Delhi Capitals have the maximum funds left. 35 lakhs were left with this franchisee. At the same time, 10 lakhs were left in the auction purse of Royal Challengers Bangalore and 5 lakhs were left with Gujarat Giants. In this way, out of the total available amount of 60 crores, 50 lakh rupees were saved. 87 players were bought for Rs 59.50 crore.

- Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player with Rs 3.40 crore. He was bought by RCB.
- Australian all-rounder Ashley Gardner got the highest price among foreign players. He was bought by Gujarat Giants for 3.20 crores.
- Among the bowlers, Indian player Renuka Singh was the most expensive. RCB bought him for 1.5 crores.
- Out of 87, 20 players were such, who got more than one crore.
- Among the players who got more than one crore, 10 were from India, 5 from Australia, 2-2 from England and South Africa and one from New Zealand.
- About one-third of the total amount spent (Rs 59.50 crore) was spent on 7 players.
- Out of 87 players bought, 57 players were Indian and 30 players were foreign. All the franchises fulfilled the available quota of foreign players.
