India has given permission to send consignments of onion to some neighboring countries amidst the ban on export of onion. The Central Government said that this time approval has been given to send consignment of about 1 lakh tonnes of onion to six countries.
Export will be done to these 6 countries
Consumer Affairs, Food And according to an official statement of the Ministry of Public Distribution, the six countries to which the government has given approval to export onions include Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Bhutan, Bahrain, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. 99 thousand 150 tons of onion will be exported to all these 6 neighboring countries together.
Approval for white onion also
The central government has also given approval for export of 2 thousand tons of white onion. Has also been approved. This white onion is grown especially for export. These are exported to the markets of West Asia and Europe.

Earlier in March, news came that the government had given permission to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bahrain and Mauritius. Approval has been given to export onion. At that time it was reported in the news that approval has been given to export 64 thousand tonnes of onion to Bhutan, Bahrain and Mauritius together. There was also an update of purchasing 1,650 tonnes of onion from traders to supply it to Bangladesh. Later in the same month, the government had also given permission to send onions to Maldives on special request.
There was a ban on exports last year
The central government had increased the prices of onions in the domestic market. After leaving, restrictions were imposed on exports last year. Initially measures like increasing duty on exports were taken. Later in December 2023, the export of onion was completely banned. The ban on export of onion still continues. The government has approved export of onion only in certain special cases.
