Layoffs Zomato Byjus Swiggy Layoffs Thousand Of Employees 36400 Indians Lost Their Jobs In Recent Times

Layoffs 2023 in India: The economic crisis that started in the end of the year 2022 has engulfed the whole world. Its effect can be clearly seen in India as well. Cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Pune are considered IT hubs where lakhs of youth get employment. In the last few months, at least 36,400 people have become unemployed in India due to rapid layoffs in big companies. According to the report of layoff.fyi., many companies have laid off 100 percent of their employees. This includes the names of companies like Lido Learning, SuperLearn and GoNuts.

Many companies laid off up to 75 percent of employees

Whereas layoff.fyi, which monitors the Tech Sector Layoffs. Has said that some companies have retrenched 70 to 75 percent of their workforce. This includes the names of companies like GoMechanic, PhableCare and MFine. E-learning app Byju’s has done the most sorting. The company has shown the way out to its 4,000 employees. Byju’s coding platform WhiteHat Jr laid off 1,800 employees in January 2021 and again a total of 300 employees in June 2022. Apart from this, Bytedance had shown the way out to 1,800 employees in January 2021. At the same time, in June 2020, Paisabazaar.com had fired 50 percent of its employees i.e. a total of 1,500 people.

Big retrenchment done in food delivery companies too

E-delivery company Swiggy has laid off a total of 2,880 employees since May 2020. On the other hand, Zomato has fired only 620 people since May 2020. Swiggy has laid off 800 employees in April 2020, 350 employees in July 2020, 250 employees in December 2022 and 380 employees in January 2023. The same Zomato has laid off 520 employees in May 2020 and 100 employees in November 2022. Apart from this, Ola has laid off a total of 1,400 employees since May 2020. E-learning app Unacademy has so far laid off a total of 1,500 people.

Tech companies laid off a total of 1.48 lakh people in the year 2023

In the years 2022 and 2023, most of the layoffs have been done by tech companies. The names of many big giants are also included in this. At the global level, a total of 503 tech companies have laid off a total of 1.48 lakh people in the year 2023. On the other hand, if we talk about the year 2022, a total of 1.6 lakh people were laid off by the tech companies. The biggest name in this has been that of the giant e-commerce company Amazon (Amazon Layoffs 2023). The company has recently announced the retrenchment of 9,000 employees once again. Earlier, the company had laid off 18,000 workers in the first round.
