Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon Have ‘Always Had the Same Priorities’

Kyra Sedgwick is sharing some insight into how she and Kevin Bacon approach their careers.

When Sedgwick, 58, stopped by TODAY with Hoda and Jenna on April 15 to promote her upcoming play All of Me, cohosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager noted that neither she nor Bacon, 65, come across as typical Hollywood actors in their personal lives.

“I mean, I don’t know — I was raised in New York, he was raised in Philly, we brought our kids up in New York. I’m not really sure — it’s what we do, it’s not what we are, right? I don’t really know,” she shared in response. “I think we’ve just sort of always had the same priorities, which is keep your feet on the ground.”

Sedgwick married Bacon in September 1988 after meeting the Footloose star on the set of their 1987 movie Lemon Sky. The couple share adult children Travis, 34, and Sosie, 32, and have maintained successful acting careers throughout their 35 years of marriage. During the appearance, Sedgwick noted that finding and keeping that success is no easy process.

“Plus, our work lives — it’s not like it’s been easy. Longevity is hard, you have to keep on working on trying to get a job, trying to get a job,” she said. “There’s no fantasy of like, ‘Life is so easy, Hollywood is so easy and movies are so easy.’ It’s all just a lot of work.”

Bacon began acting in the late 1970s and broke out with his 1984 hit Footloose, while Sedgwick made her onscreen debut in 1982 in the television series Another World. Most recently, Bacon appeared in the 2023 Netflix movie Leave the World Behind, while Sedgwick had a recurring role in the second season of Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty.

While speaking with Kotb, 59, and Bush Hager, 42, Sedgwick also commented on the viral TikTok she and Bacon made in March showing them each wearing matching a white tank top and blue jeans. “I don’t think we look alike — I literally was wearing his tank top and jeans, which is a little scary that I can fit into his tank top and jeans, but never mind,” she said of the video, in which the couple joked they were beginning to look similar after more than three decades of marriage.

Sedgwick and Bacon celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary back in September. The pair are soon reuniting on the big screen to costar in a movie for the first time since 2004 in the upcoming film Connescence.
