Kelly Clarkson Warns Meghan Trainor About Touring with Kids

Meghan Trainor is touring for the first time since becoming a mom, and Kelly Clarkson has some sage advice!

During the Monday, April 29 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the “All About That Bass” singer, 30, revealed plans to bring her and Daryl Sabara’s sons Riley, 3, and Barry, 9 months, on her Timeless Tour this fall — and Clarkson offered her two cents.

After warning Trainor that she won’t “wanna hear what I have to say,” the mom of two — who shares daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remy, 8, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock — warned her how difficult it is to get “proper sleep” when touring becomes a family affair.

“I’m gonna warn you, I tried this,” she told the “Mother” singer. “I tried this, and it was fine with the one kid, but when you went out, when you tried with two — and then I had dogs, too — I was like, ‘What do I… who do I think I am?’ ”

Trainor, who has four “dog babies” of her own, said she wouldn’t have to fret about the pets, as she put her brother on dog-sitting duty for the duration of the two-month tour.

“But the two children, they are young,” Trainor said, adding that she and Sabara, 31, are currently trying to potty train their youngest, Barry, ahead of the tour, which kicks off in September.

Clarkson’s No. 1 piece of advice? Do not wake up when the kids do, which is 6 a.m. most days, Trainor said.

“I have one tip for you, and this is because I think a lot of, especially, women have so much guilt on the road — just in general — but especially with your kiddos, you feel like you have to wake up with them,” she said. “Don’t do that.”

Rather, Clarkson advised, “Have someone. Let him wake up with them. Sleep in as long as you can, ‘cause you don’t go onstage for your vocals until late.”

“It will screw you,” she added, “‘cause your voice will hate you.”

Dubbing Clarkson’s sleep-saving advice “brilliant,” Trainor also noted that the fall tour is just a trial run of sorts.

“It’s only, like, a two-month tour,” she said. “And everyone’s like, ‘Where’s my UK dates? Where’s the long tour?’ And I was like, ‘We are trying. We’re gonna dip our toe in and see if we survive. You know? And then we will add dates.’ ”

“But you won’t if you try and be super mom,” Clarkson said. “Like, don’t. You’re gonna be super mom by showing them how amazing you are on stage and that’s the time you need for yourself in the morning.”

After nodding to the help she receives from Sabara (“Dad is super mom and super dad all the time”) Trainor shared plans to visit “museums or something” while touring, and Clarkson once again advised the singer against being “super mom.”

“But don’t try and do it all,” the host said. “See, I tried to do all that too. Don’t try to do it all. See you’re excited about life just like me. And it’s okay to miss some of the moments. It’s OK.”
