Jack Wagner Would ‘Entertain’ a Cameo on ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot (Exclusive)

With a Melrose Place revival on the horizon, Jack Wagner isn’t writing off the idea of making an appearance on the drama.

During an interview with PEOPLE, the actor, 64, discussed the possibility of reprising the role of Dr. Peter Burns in the show, which CBS is currently developing and pitching to networks and streamers. Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton are already set to return.

In the original show’s series finale, Peter and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and tied the knot with Peter on a beach, possibly living “happily ever after.”

“You never really die on a soap, right?” he tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “How they unfold those two characters [Peter and Amanda], it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story. … That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

As PEOPLE previously reported, the new series would follow some of the original neighbors and friends, who reunite after a death. According to a summary of the series, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

The original Melrose Place, which chronicled the lives and loves of the residents of the titular apartment complex, ran for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999, with a cast that included Wagner, Locklear, Leighton, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, Doug Savant, Rob Estes and Grant Show. It received five Golden Globe nominations, including best performance by an actress in a TV drama for Locklear and and best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, miniseries or TV movie for Leighton, 55.

The soap drama also featured appearances by Kristin Davis, Marcia Cross, Kelly Rutherford and Alyssa Milano and led to a romance between Wagner and Locklear, who dated from 2007 to 2011.

During an interview with PEOPLE earlier this week, Lisa Rinna, who played Taylor McBride for three seasons, expressed interest in appearing in the Melrose Place reboot, as well.

“Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it,” Rinna, 60, told PEOPLE when asked about the reboot. “I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

Wagner, for his part, tells PEOPLE a lot of credit should go to Locklear, 62, for her professionalism on Melrose Place’s set.

“Heather was phenomenal, and I think the way she handled herself, it’s sort of just the whole cast followed suit,” he recalls. “I believe in how actors perform, how they show up, how they’re prepared, and it’s a tight ship. When you have a tight ship, I just believe that you have better performances and that allows audiences to fall in love with the characters and the stories.”

While Wagner, who currently stars on the Hallmark Channel period drama When Calls the Heart, doesn’t keep up with many of his former castmates, he compares running into them to an impromptu catch-up with an old high school friend.

“It’s like you pick up right where you left off,” he says, adding, “That’s what I would describe it as. It’s not like I talk to most of my ex-castmates all the time. But when the occasion happens where we run into each other, it’s like… we haven’t missed a beat.”

When Calls the Heart airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on the Hallmark Channel. All 7 seasons of Melrose Place are available to stream on Prime Video.
