Mediclaim: Health insurance claims generally do not cause problems, but sometimes it happens when the policyholder has to be hospitalized for less than 24 hours. Most health insurance has a condition that at least 24 hours of hospitalization is necessary for the claim. However, today there are health insurance policies where you can claim for hospitalization of 2 hours and not 24 hours.
Bhabatosh Mishra, Director – Underwriting, Products and Claims, Niva Bupa Health Insurance, told ABP Live that in today’s date, the need for 24-hour hospitalization for health insurance claims is not much. There are many such policies in the market which provide you the opportunity to claim even for hospitalization of less than 24 hours.
Mishra told that if a person is going to take a health insurance policy, then he should take care of some things. There are many health insurance policies that cover 500-600 types of procedures under day care. In view of the development of technology in the medical field, there is no need to be admitted for 24 hours for the treatment of most diseases or their procedure. He told that it is necessary to understand the nuances while taking the policy.
If you have already taken a health insurance policy and your policy does not have such facilities, then you can also get your policy ported to another general insurance company or health insurance company. If you are going to take a new health insurance policy, then keep in mind that how many procedures the policy covers under day-care and whether OPD cover is included in it or not.
Recently, a consumer court of Vadodara had directed that the claim is valid even in case of hospitalization period of less than 24 hours. This matter was related to the National Insurance Company.
