The year 2023 proved to be great for the stock market. Major indices like BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty saw a rise of about 20-20 percent during the year. Sensex gained more than 11 thousand points during the year. Foreign portfolio investors also participated enthusiastically in this spectacular rally of the stock market.
Ended the year with a purchase
According to domestic stock market data, foreign portfolio investors i.e. FPIs remained kind to the Indian stock market throughout the year 2023. Especially in the last month of the year, FPI opened both its hands. For this reason, December became the biggest month of the entire year 2023 for the Indian market in terms of FPI investment. Before December, FPIs had remained sellers for three consecutive months.
December's record breaking figures
During the entire year, FPIs invested Rs 2.37 lakh crore in the Indian market. According to NSDL data, in December this year alone, FPIs bought Rs 66,135 crore in Indian equities. Their total inflow in the Indian market till December 29 was Rs 84,537 crore. If we look at the entire year, FPIs invested Rs 1.71 lakh crore in equity and overall Rs 2.37 lakh crore.
Invested so much in debt market
Apart from equity, FPIs have also been making big investments in the debt segment in the Indian market. Apart from equity and debt, they also invest money in hybrid and debt-VRR. Talking only about the debt market, the net investment of FPI in this segment in the entire year 2023 has been Rs 68,663 crore.
There were only 4 months of net sales
If we look at the trend of the entire year, in 4 out of 12 months of 2023, FPIs were net sellers, while during 8 months they bought on net basis in the Indian market. The months of net selling were January, February, September and October. Regarding the entire year, it can also be said that FPIs started 2023 by selling in the Indian market, but they ended the year with tremendous buying. Thus, overall FPI buyers remained in 2023.
