After entering the field of earth, space and social media, now Elon Musk is going to establish his presence in the educational sector also. Actually, Musk is preparing to open schools and colleges. It is said that Musk is planning to set up a new educational institute in Austin, Texas in which children from primary to high school age group will be able to study. That means till 10th class will be taught in Musk's school. However, this is their initial plan which may be expanded later.
Musk's focus on STEM
Elon Musk has donated $100 million to a newly formed charity called The Foundation for this school. Its objective is to pursue an innovative education program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. That means this school will especially focus on STEM and train children for the future.
School will start with this many children
According to tax filings obtained by Bloomberg, the school plans to start with an initial enrollment of about 50 students. The filing outlines the school's ambition to be tuition-free. That means there will be no tuition fees. If tuition is implemented there will also be provisions for need-based scholarships. That means children will also get scholarship.
Let us tell you, in 2014, Musk started a small private school called 'Ad Astra' for his children and company employees. Ad Astra takes a unique approach by abandoning traditional grading systems in favor of assessing “competencies and capabilities”. This means that here children's skills and talents are given more importance than their marks.
It has also come to light from the filing that Musk is pursuing a long vision and he can also open a college after school. Plans include the proposed university seeking accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
