Dua Lipa Climbs a Tower of Men in ‘Illusion’ Music Video

Dua Lipa knows what she deserves and is ready to get it in the music video for her latest dance anthem, “Illusion.”

On Thursday, April 11, Lipa, 28, released the third single off her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Radical Optimism, along with its video. The clip was filmed in the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc in Barcelona, Spain.

Dressed in a sexy black bodysuit, the singer begins the video dancing alongside men in white muscle tanks and athletic black shorts atop a pool tower.

As the song’s thumping beat progresses, Lipa lies in the middle of a pool as swimmers perform an eye-catching routine around her.

After climbing a tower of men, the video ends with Lipa staring right at the camera as she sings, “You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion?”

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Lipa said the track is “about knowing what you’re getting yourself into, but staying for the hell of it. The joke’s on them, it’s the fun of playing someone at their own game because ultimately you won’t fall for an illusion.”

The track is one Lipa said “broke the ice” for the new album, as it was the first one she worked on with her collaborators Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Kevin Parker.

The single is a perfect complement to her forthcoming album, which, according to a press release, taps “into the pure joy and happiness of having clarity in situations that once seemed impossible to face.”

The project has been in the works for a long time, as Lipa previously shared that she began working on it in 2021 during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February.

“I started writing for this album in 2021, and I just wanted to write my ideas down. So, I went down to CVS, and I just bought a random notebook. Had I have known how important that book would’ve been, maybe I would’ve gotten a more fancy one,” she told host Jimmy Kimmel.

Noting she wrote a total of 97 songs for the project, she joked that “about 80 of them” were not up to par.

“The second I write a song, I know whether it’s good or not — or whether it’s close to being good, and then I would rework it,” Lipa said.
