Boria Majumdar vs Saha controversy: For the first time in two years, after the controversy that erupted with Indian cricketer Wriddhiman Saha, sports journalist Boria Majumdar has presented his side through his new book. His book 'Banned: A Social Media Trial', launched on Tuesday (April 23, 2024), details how Team India players had to go through a social media trial following allegations made by them and how they faced a two-year ban on sports coverage. But what happened to him and his family? The entire incident had affected his family mentally and emotionally.
Speaking at the launch of the book, Boria Majumdar said, “Social media trials break you. Thousands of abuse-filled tweets continued to surface for days, which were being pushed by a powerful person on the basis of lies. This happened because the man who played for the country and the national team forced me and my family to use every last bit of strength. However, it left a permanent mark.”
I was a stranger to my daughter then – Boria Majumdar
According to the sports journalist, “After facing the ban, I wanted to end this book, but no one knows better than me that there will never be a full stop. I will not get back the two years of opportunities that I lost or those days and evenings. When I was almost a stranger to my daughter.”

The book not only details the challenges endured by Boria Majumdar and her family after the incident but also sheds light on past conversations between her and the cricketer and the context behind her messages that were used against her. On the trolls and the tough times faced, Dr. Sharmistha Guptu, wife of the sports journalist, said, “I can only be grateful that my daughter was eight years old then. She was not 14 or 15 years old then to see her father being insulted on social media. The trolls did not spare him or me during that time.”
