BAN vs ZIM: To improve the preparations for T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh team is currently hosting Zimbabwe. The 5-match T20 series between them started from May 3 and the Bangladeshi team has been victorious in all four matches played so far. On Friday, the fourth match of the series was played between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, in which a shameful record has been added to the name of Bangladesh. In this match, Bangladesh was limited to the score of 143 runs. Low-scoring matches are not a new thing in T20 cricket, but the strange incident of the match was that despite having an opening partnership of more than 100 runs, Bangladesh could not score much runs.
Opening partnership of 101 runs, then the entire team collapses.
Bangladesh came to bat first in the match. Tanjid Hasan scored 52 runs in 37 balls and his opening partner Soumya Sarkar contributed 41 runs in 34 balls. There was a partnership of 101 runs between them for the first wicket. Bangladesh lost its first wicket in the form of Tanjid Hasan on the second ball of the 12th over. Apart from him, Tahid Hriday was the only batsman who crossed double figures in terms of runs. Hriday scored 12 runs in 8 balls.
The team's first wicket fell at 101 runs and within no time the team had lost 6 wickets for 130 runs. Captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto came and all the other batsmen including Shakib Al Hasan kept coming and going. In this way the entire team collapsed on the score of 143 runs. After a good start, the entire team getting bundled out for just 42 runs is not at all a good thing from the point of view of preparations for the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh became the first such team
This has happened many times before in T20 cricket when a team was reduced to a low score after making an opening partnership of 100 or more runs. But Bangladesh has become the first such team in international cricket. Earlier in the match against SRH in IPL 2017, Gujarat Lions were restricted to a score of 154. Talking about Indian domestic cricket, Mumbai team in 2019 and Kerala team in 2018 have been all-out after similar good starts. In the Big Bash League, Melbourne Renegades had bowled out Parth Scorchers for 162 runs after an opening partnership of more than 100 runs.
