After the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup, many things have changed in Pakistani cricket. Within the last few months, the team has got a new captain, a new coach and even the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has changed. Since the T20 World Cup 2024 is approaching, there has been a stir in Pakistani cricket in the last one week. There are indications of a change in the captain, some players have come back from retirement just before the World Cup. Amidst all this, the Pakistani cricket team has suffered a big setback.
Explosive wicketkeeper batsman fails fitness test
Just before the T20 World Cup 2024, Azam Khan has given a big blow to the Pakistani cricket team. Azam Khan is a wicketkeeper batsman and is known for his explosive batting, but he has failed in the fitness test. PCB had set-up a training camp in Abbottabad. On the second day of the camp, each player had to run 2 kilometers. All other players had completed the 2 km race within 10 minutes, but Azam Khan could run only 1.5 km within 10 minutes. He also completed this distance in 20 minutes, which was double the scheduled time.
Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi and many other players covered the distance of 2 km in less than 9 minutes. Whereas Mohammad Nawaz ran 2 km in 9 minutes 57 seconds. If Nawaz had taken a little more time, he would have failed the fitness test.
Babar Azam was not seen during the fitness test
These days, news of giving the captaincy of the team to Babar Azam again is coming out, but he did not become a part of this fitness test. Babar is currently in Saudi Arabia and it is expected that he will join the camp on March 28. Imad Wasim, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf also did not appear in the fitness test. These players are currently either injured or recovering from injury.
