After ruling the skies across the world including India for nearly 5 decades, Air India's Boeing planes have now bid farewell. Tata Group's aviation company has now sold the last four Boeing 747-400 jumbo jets left in its fleet. With this, the journey of these aircraft of Air India, known as Palace in the Sky, was completed.
Now planes will be used for these purposes
According to an ET report, Air India has recently sold the last 4 Boeing 747-400 jumbo jets of its fleet. These have been sold to American company AerSale, which supplies engines and spare parts for aftermarket commercial jets. Of the four, two Boeing 747 aircraft will be converted into freighters, while the remaining two will be disassembled and their spare parts will be taken out.
According to the report, the transfer of these four Boeing 747-400 aircraft from Air India to Aircel will be managed by Mumbai-based company Vman Aviation Services.
Boeing's first jumbo jet arrived in 1971
Air India and Boeing's jumbo jet partnership is decades old. Air India first purchased these aircraft from Boeing on 22 March 1971. After that, on May 21, 1971, Boeing's 747-400 aircraft, known as Jumbo Jet, was included in the fleet for the first time. At that time the company had reinstated these huge Boeing planes in the flight from India to London.
Used in the travel of VIP people
Air India's Boeing planes were nicknamed 'Palace in the Sky' because of their grandeur. The company had named the Boeing 747-400 aircraft included in its fleet after historical Indian rulers like Emperor Ashoka, Emperor Shahjahan. Till a few years ago, these same Air India aircraft were also used for the travel of VIPs like the Prime Minister, President and Vice President.
The branding of the planes was done in this way
The company had specially branded these Boeing planes. The planes were decorated on the outside in white and silver with red details. The windows were given such a color in Rajasthani style that they look like the window-like balconies of Hawa Mahal in Jaipur. The company had created a new branding with the tag 'Your Palace in the Sky'.
Air India had already given information
However, now the air travel in the air palaces of Air India has now stopped. The heavenly journey of nearly 5 decades has now been completed. Air India had already made its intentions clear that Boeing's 747-400 aircraft would be phased out of the fleet.
