India vs Australia 4th Test: The last and decisive Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 is to be played in Ahmedabad from 9 March. There are only three days left for the start of this test, but till now Australia’s regular captain Pat Cummins has not returned to India. No update has been revealed about his coming to India. In such a situation, it is possible that only Steve Smith will take the command of Australia in the next Test as well.
Pat Cummins returned to Australia only after the first two matches of this four-match Test series. He had to return home due to the ill health of his family member. He could not even be available in the Indore Test. In such a situation, Cricket Australia handed over the captaincy to Steve Smith.
In the absence of Pat Cummins, Smith captained against India in a very aggressive manner and made a strong comeback in the series by winning his team in the Indore Test. Now possibly in the Test to be played in Ahmedabad, he will have the responsibility of stopping the series on par.
Smith has captained Australia in 37 Tests
Steve Smith has good captaincy experience. Between 2014 and 2018, he was the captain of the Australian team. But in 2018, he had to relinquish the captaincy due to the ball tampering case. After this, on some occasions in between, he got the chance of captaincy. So far this player has captained the Australia team in 37 Test matches. Here he has won his team in 21 matches, while he has faced defeat in 10 matches. The remaining 6 matches are draws.
Most successful foreign captain in last decade in India
In India too, he has been the most successful captain in visiting teams. In the last decade, the Indian team has lost only three Tests, in two of which Steve Smith has been the captain. In the year 2017 also, he had given a one-sided defeat to the Indian team in the Pune Test.
