Wanindu Hasaranga fooled ICC? For this reason he retired from Test cricket

Sri Lankan cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga was embroiled in controversy during the T20 match series against Afghanistan in February. In the third match of the T20 series against Afghanistan, Hasaranga got 8 demerit points for misbehaving with umpire Lyndon Hannibal. Before this, let us remind you that Hasaranga had created a stir in the cricket world by retiring from Test cricket in August last year at the age of only 26. He did this because he wanted to play more franchise cricket, but here's how he fooled the ICC and took his retirement from Test cricket.

Wanindu Hasaranga fooled ICC

Hasaranga had retired from Test cricket in August 2023, but due to the incident that occurred in the match against Afghanistan in February 2024, he received 8 demerit points. In such a situation, a player is banned for 2 Test matches or 4 ODIs or the same number of T20 matches. Since the T20 World Cup 2024 is approaching, but before that Sri Lanka was not going to play any limited overs series. In such a situation, Hasaranga might have to sit out of 4 matches during the World Cup due to the ban.

Not even a month had passed since Hasaranga's incident with the umpire, when he took out his retirement from Test cricket. A few days later, he was selected in the squad of 17 players for the 2-Test series against Bangladesh. As soon as Hasaranga was selected in the squad, his ban of 2 matches also came into effect. Sri Lanka had won by 328 runs in the first test match, in which Hasaranga did not play. The second Test is to start from March 30, whether Hasaranga will play in the playing eleven or not, but it is certain that after this series his ban will be lifted.

If Wanindu Hasaranga had not been selected for the Test series, he might have had to leave the T20 World Cup matches. It is worth accepting that Hasaranga fulfilled his ban by dodging the ICC and also came out of the danger of not playing in the T20 World Cup. Let us tell you that recently the news of his being out of IPL 2024 has also come to light. It is being told that due to AD's injury he will not be able to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad.
