Mumbai Airport Got Record Passengers In January 2023 Due To Many Reasons

Mumbai Airport: The country’s second busiest airport, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) recorded a movement of around 45 lakh passengers in January 2023. CSMIA has handled about 1.2 million international and about 3.2 million domestic passengers. The increase in passenger traffic is a testament to the efforts of CSMIA in this regard as well as the confidence of passengers in the security initiatives and protocols adopted by the airport.

149 percent increase as compared to January 2022

CSMIA is expected to host nearly 4.5 million passengers on 27,331 flights in January 2023, a 149 per cent increase over January 2022 numbers. Out of the total passenger traffic, CSMIA handled 61 per cent domestic passenger traffic and the remaining 39 per cent was international passengers. With an average of 140,641 passenger arrivals in 882 flights, CSMIACO is expected to remain consistent and achieve the growth momentum rapidly.

Why there was a record increase in passengers at Mumbai airport

According to an airport spokesperson, this increase in passengers was driven by positive sentiments among air travelers and a strong surge due to the festive holiday season. In addition CSMIA handled a record single day movement of about 1,50,988 passengers through the airport in December 2022. This record traffic in a single day proves the growing confidence of commuters in CSMIA’s initiatives towards better customer experience.

Most of the flights flew from Mumbai airport to the cities of these countries

Dubai, London and Abu Dhabi replaced Mumbai as the top three international destinations. While Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa retained their positions as the top three domestic destinations. CSMIA currently serves as a gateway to 65 domestic and 47 international destinations for passengers from Mumbai and its surrounding areas.
