Bengal, Punjab and other states have seen a major increase in flu cases. The number of swine flu patients in the country is also increasing day by day. Compared to last year, a 15 times increase has been registered.

In this regard, Dr. Jejo Karankumar, Director, Abbott India Medical Affairs, says, “Influenza is a vaccine-preventable disease and there are several steps you can take to protect yourself and your family from the health problems associated with the disease. It is important to provide multi-layered protection against influenza in groups, not only to children but also to adults who are at risk of illness.”

Take these steps to prevent flu:

Get vaccinated: It is most important that you get yourself and your family fully vaccinated. Children and adults need to get a flu shot every year in conjunction with the vaccination schedule. Because the flu virus changes every year.

Wash your hands regularly: Use soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer to prevent the flu. Remember to avoid touching the eyes, nose, mouth and disinfect frequently handled objects. Use mask in public.

What is the remedy for flu?

1. Relax: Don’t sweat a lot, especially in the first few days after having the flu. In these days the body needs to stay fresh. Rest is the right remedy for physical and mental fatigue.

2. Drink plenty of fluids: Drink thin soup. And drink hot herbal tea without caffeine. It is also necessary to take warm lemon water, coconut water and fresh fruit juices.

3. Take proper diet: You may not want to eat much when you are sick, but it is important to nourish the body well. Eat plenty of oranges, pomegranates, strawberries and other seasonal fruits, and add winter vegetables like leafy greens and sweet potatoes to your diet. Spices like black pepper, ginger and turmeric also reduce inflammation and help clear the nose.

4. Steam: Taking steam in winter will clear your nose and keep your body warm.
