Women Account Holders Rising With More Deposit In Banks Shows Sign Of Financial Inclusion

Financial Inclusion: Women are increasingly contributing to various dimensions of the economy. Now they are not just confined to the doors of the houses, but are actively participating in every field. However, even after this, their share in banking is very less. Over the years, the picture has improved somewhat with the focus on financial inclusion, but it is still far from equal. This thing has come out in the latest government figures.

This much is the share in deposits

According to statistics, during the last few years, the participation of women in both bank accounts and deposits has increased. However, after the epidemic, women have kept less money in banks than men. At present, the number of women account holders in total bank accounts is 35 percent, while their share in total deposits is just 20 percent. That is, about one-third of the account holders are women, but they have only one-fifth of the total deposits.

just one-fourth of the workforce

This information has been found in the report titled ‘Women and Men in India 2022’, which has been released by the Ministry of Statistics recently. According to the report, even among the employees working in banks, the share of women is still very less. Right now one out of every four employees is a woman. That is, the share of women in the total employees of banks is only 25 percent.

Women have deposited so much money

According to the report, according to the data till January 2023, the total number of deposit accounts with the banks is 225.5 crore. Of these, around 79 crore bank accounts are of women. At present, Rs 170 lakh crore is deposited in all the deposit accounts opened with banks, while about Rs 34 lakh crore is deposited in the accounts of women account holders.

Better improvement in villages

In March 2019, the share of women in total accounts was about 31 per cent and the share in total deposits was about 18 per cent. This shows that during the last few years the number of women account holders has increased and at the same time the amount deposited in their account has also increased. Financial inclusion of women has been better in villages than in cities, as women’s share of total deposits in rural areas has grown twice as fast as in cities.
