Deandra Dottin on her WPL 2023 exclusion: The Gujarat Giants team is at the bottom of the points table in the Women’s Premier League. Gujarat started their campaign against Mumbai Indians with a defeat. The franchise made a last-minute change in its squad, which later became a controversy. In fact, Gujarat Giants included West Indies’ Deandra Dottin in their team during the auction. But at the last moment he was dropped from the team. Later, the franchise gave Kim Garth a place in the team as a replacement for Dottin. Deandra Dottin has broken her silence on being dropped from the Women’s Premier League. During this, he targeted the Gujarat Giants team management.
Franchisee gave this statement
Gujarat Giants had said in a statement, Diandra is a world class cricketer, she is a great player of the team. But I haven’t received Deandra Dottin’s medical clearance by the stipulated time. Reporting is mandatory for players joining the Women’s Premier League. We hope that she will be back on the field soon.
Diandra replied
Diandra Dottin issued a statement saying, I would like to issue a brief statement regarding the ongoing speculation regarding the recent exclusion from the Women’s Premier League to be held in India. I am very disappointed that the reason for my exclusion from the tournament can only be explained as an argument. I was bought in the Women’s Premier League auction by Gujarat Giants, a franchise owned by the Adani Group. At the beginning of the tournament, the franchise claimed that I was kept out of the team because I was recovering.
He further said that I want to make it clear that I had minor abdominal pain and bloating. For which I got the treatment done in December 2022. After this, in December and January 2023, the experts gave 2 more referrals. After examination, I was asked by the experts to take rest till 13th February. Approval was given to start fitness and training from 14 February.
franchisee misinterpreted
Dottin said that Gujarat Giants misinterpreted his words. According to him, I was clear about this in communication with the physiotherapist of Gujarat Giants. However, it was misunderstood and later the members of the team management were informed about my abdominal pain. which I did not indicate. He further said, a copy of the medical clearance was handed over to the Giants by Dr Ian Lewis, the surgeon who treated me till 20 February.
