Women’s Premier League: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has started from 4 March. Here in the very first innings of the match, there was a flurry of fours and sixes. During the match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants here, the Mumbai team scored a mammoth score of 207 runs in the first innings. During this innings, 31 fours and 6 sixes were hit. Women’s T20 matches usually do not score this much. In such a situation, when this huge score was made, then a big reason also came out behind it.
According to a report in Indian Express, the boundary in WPL has been reduced considerably. The biggest boundary here has also not been kept more than 60 meters. In the recently held Women’s T20 World Cup, the maximum distance of the boundary was kept at 65 meters, which means it has been reduced to 5 meters in WPL. BCCI has taken this decision so that more fours and sixes can be hit in the matches and maximum entertainment can be done for the audience.
Even before the start of WPL, the boundary ropes of DY Patil and Brabourne Stadium were pulled forward. Let us inform that all the matches of WPL are going to be held in these two stadiums only. An official has told The Indian Express, ‘The BCCI had given us instructions that the boundary can be kept up to a maximum of 60 meters in every match.’ Please tell that in IPL matches, the distance of these boundaries is kept up to 70 meters.
Mumbai Indians managed to take advantage of the short boundary
In the first match of WPL, the team of Mumbai Indians took full advantage of the small boundary. While Harmanpreet hit 14 fours, Hayley Mathews hit 4 sixes. Mumbai scored 207 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In front of this huge score, the team of Gujarat Giants had succumbed. The Gujarat team was all out for just 64 runs.
