What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause is a transitional stage in which the level of estrogen hormone in a woman's body gradually starts decreasing. This continues until menopause i.e. menstruation stops. This happens because the ovaries start producing less hormones and thus fertility starts decreasing. During this time, the menstrual cycle is also very irregular due to the decrease in ovarian hormones. When you do not menstruate for a whole year, understand that perimenopause is now over and menopause has begun. Although it occurs at different ages in every woman, it happens early in some women around 30.

Why do some women go through perimenopause early?

Talking about the causes of early perimenopause, Dr. Dayal says that it can happen due to many reasons. Many genetic and environmental factors can be responsible for this. Because of this, perimenopause can start before the age of 40. A woman's family history plays an important role in determining the age at which perimenopause begins. This means that if someone in her family has experienced early menopause, then that woman is more likely to start perimenopause early. Also, people who do not eat a healthy diet or who smoke and drink alcohol may experience early perimenopause due to hormonal imbalances. Additionally, women who have irregular menstrual cycles may also experience perimenopause at an early age. Similarly, a woman who has never been pregnant is also at risk of early perimenopause.

How to Deal With Perimenopause Symptoms?

According to doctors, the reason for the early onset of perimenopause is the decrease in hormone levels in the ovaries. This causes irregular menstrual cycles, mood changes, such as mood swings, irritability, lack of confidence, bone-related problems, such as osteopenia.

If left untreated, osteopenia can also turn into osteoporosis. Therefore, to cure perimenopause, it is important to reduce its symptoms. For this, doctors say, if you feel that you have entered perimenopause early, then contact your doctor and tell them about it, so that they can confirm the change in hormones with the help of tests etc.

Hormone replacement therapy can be effective in reducing symptoms of perimenopause. It replaces estrogen and progesterone, whose levels begin to decline during perimenopause. In addition, adopting a healthy lifestyle can help control its symptoms to a great extent. It is important to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet including fruits, vegetables and whole grains, reduce stress through relaxation such as yoga and meditation, and avoid tobacco and alcohol.

Doctors say that due to lack of estrogen, the risk of heart disease increases, so it is important to take special care of diet. So include low fat and carbohydrate foods in your diet. Apart from this, exercise to promote heart health. Bones can also become weak due to lack of estrogen. Therefore, calcium supplements should be started with perimenopause to avoid bone loss. Apart from this, it is important to consult a doctor in case of any problem related to menstruation.

Doctors say that every woman's experience of perimenopause is different. Therefore, remedies that work for one person may not be effective for others. Similarly, the severity of symptoms can also vary from person to person. Therefore, it may take some time to know what the symptoms are. In such a situation, it is very important not to panic and remain patient.
