Online Shopping Fraud: A new name has been added to the list of online shopping frauds going on around the world. A 31-year-old doctor from Navi Mumbai ordered lipstick worth Rs 300 online from an e-commerce portal. In return, he got defrauded of one lakh rupees.
Asked to send Rs 2
According to the information, a few days after ordering the lipstick, she received a message that her item had arrived. But, the doctor had not yet received the product. So he called the company’s helpline number. From there he was told that his order had been stopped. If you want to place an order, you will have to send Rs 2. But, the woman refused to send the money. After this a web link was sent to the doctor. He was asked to download it. After this they were asked to fill their address and bank details. Then he also got a message to create BHIM UPI link. After this the company assured that now their goods will reach.
First Rs 95 thousand then Rs 5000 were deducted
After this, first Rs 95 thousand and then Rs 5000 were deducted from the account of the female doctor on 9 November. After deducting the money, he lodged a complaint with the police. Police have registered the case and started investigation.

Online shopping has now become a necessity for almost every home. Therefore, it is important that you make secure online payments so that fraud can be avoided. For this, it is important to purchase from a reputed website only. Apart from this, always use strong password and two factor authentication. Always reject suspicious demands. If someone asks for your PAN card or credit card number, refuse it clearly. Don’t pay attention to threats like closing your account. Always use a secure and reliable payment system to send money. Apart from this, keep checking bank and credit card statements regularly.
