Veg Thali Inflation: After July, the month of August has also been very heavy on those who eat vegetarian food. Due to the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes in the month of August, the cost of a plate of vegetarian food has seen a jump of 24 per cent. However, compared to July 2023, there has been a slight decrease in the price of veg thali. In July, the inflation rate of vegetarian food plate was 28 percent.
Expensive tomato attack on vegetarian food
The food place cost of the monthly indicator of rating agency Crisil has been released, according to which the cost of vegetarian thali has been 24 percent costlier in August 2023 as compared to a year ago. In which 21 percent of the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes alone have contributed.
Compared to a year ago, vegetarian thali has become costlier by 24 per cent in the month of August. However, as compared to July 2023, there has been a slight decrease in the price of vegetarian thali. In July, the inflation of vegetarian food plate was 28 percent.
According to the Crisil report, in June 2023, where tomatoes were available at Rs 33 per kg, it reached Rs 250 per kg in the month of July-August. According to the report, there has been a jump of 8 percent in onion prices, 20 percent in chilli prices and 158 percent in cumin prices.
Reduced burden of inflation on non-veg thali
While the inflation of vegetarian thali has been 24 percent in August, the inflation of non-veg thali has not increased at that pace. The inflation of non-veg thali has been only 13 per cent in August. Due to reduction in the prices of edible oil by 17 percent and potato prices by 14 percent, there has been some reduction in the cost of both the plates.
Relief can be found in September
However, compared to July and August, there may be a big drop in the inflation of vegetarian plate in the month of September. Tomato prices have come down to Rs 51 per kg in September. The price of domestic cooking gas cylinder has been reduced by Rs 200 and has come down from Rs 1103 to Rs 903. This will give great relief to the consumers. Due to which, when the figures of inflation of vegetarian and non-veg plates will come for the month of September, then there may be some decrease in it.
This is how the rate of the plate turns out
CRISIL calculates the average cost of a plate at home based on the prices of food items in all regions of the country. This makes it easy to find out the expenditure on food of the people. Apart from this, due to cereals, pulses, vegetables, spices, edible oil, broiler i.e. chicken and cooking gas, the change in the price of the plate is known.
