UPI in Other Countries: India has made significant progress in digitalizing banking services including transactions. Many studies have revealed that India's infrastructure in terms of digital banking is better than many developed countries. UPI has the biggest contribution in making India the leader of digital payments. This is the reason why now the reach of UPI has started strengthening outside India also.
UPI reached Sri Lanka and Mauritius
India has now launched UPI in neighboring countries Sri Lanka and Mauritius. UPI services were launched in both the countries on Monday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Along with this, RuPay card services were also started in both Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Just recently, a few days ago, UPI services were started in France.
Digital payment became popular in India
UPI has been prepared by India's payments regulator National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI. It is an instant payment system, which facilitates real time transactions from one bank account to another. Payments made through UPI are settled in real time. Meaning, money can be sent from one bank account to another in the blink of an eye. Due to UPI, today digital payments in India have reached even remote villages. People are doing shopping from a cup of tea to vegetables and groceries through UPI.
UPI started on Eiffel Tower
The Indian government is making efforts towards making UPI acceptable across the world. This month, UPI services have been started in the major European country France. Under this, now you can make payment through UPI at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. For this, a QR code has been given on the website of the Eiffel Tower, which can be scanned from any UPI enabled app and UPI payment can be made.
Link with Singapore Payment Interface
Some time before this, UPI was made available in Singapore. Indian UPI has been linked with Singapore's instant payment interface PayNow. This linkage has made it possible to transfer money in real time between India to Singapore and Singapore to India. UPI services are also available in many other countries outside India, including UAE, Nepal, Bhutan etc.
Available on international numbers of these countries
Another important milestone in this wonderful journey of UPI becoming international i.e. global is the availability of access through international mobile numbers. A report suggests that UPI can be accessed and used from international numbers in about a dozen countries. This service is available in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, America, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Britain. Indian people can use UPI from NRE and NRO accounts using international numbers in these countries.
