TRAI New Rules: From today i.e. October 1, lakhs of mobile users may face difficulty in making online payments. This is because the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) is going to implement the new rule from October 1, 2024. Under this, messages containing links to OTT links, URLs, APKs will be blocked with immediate effect. The telecom regulator was going to implement it from September 1, but on the demand of Licom operators and other stakeholders, it was extended till September 30.
This rule is being implemented to curb fake calls and messages. In this, users will not receive messages or calls from any telemarketer or institution which is not registered. In such a situation, users will not receive OTP messages from banks or payment platforms which have not whitelisted themselves. It is not possible to make online payment without OTP.
Will get relief from fake calls
Let us tell you that DoT and TRAI have implemented these rules to provide relief to crores of mobile users of the country from fake calls and messages. According to the report, TRAI has asked telecom operators to register all those companies which give OTP or other information to users through message or call. If any company is not registered then users will not be able to receive SMS.
What is the new rule of TRAI?
The telecom regulator has directed telecom operators to follow a certain template for messages containing important information like OTP and link, so that spam calls and messages can be curbed. According to the new rule, messages sent by agencies which are not whitelisted will be blocked by the network. In such a situation, users will not get OTP to make online payment.
