Hospitality and Tourism Sector: Hospitality and tourism sector has the potential to generate 5 crore jobs in the coming 5 to 7 years. Hotels Association of India (HAI) said on Monday that this target can be easily achieved if the government supports it. For this, there is a need to give industry and infrastructure status to the tourism and hospitality sector. If this support is received then crores of direct and indirect jobs can be created in the sector.

HAI President Puneet Chhathwal said in the sixth HAI Hoteliers Conclave that with the hospitality sector getting industry and infrastructure status, along with making living arrangements, income and employment will also increase. MD and CEO of Indian Hotels Company Limited Chhathwal said that tourism is a pillar of development. It is contributing about 10 percent of the total employment in the country. Besides, it also has 8 percent share in GDP. There are possibilities for it to grow further. This sector just needs the right policies.
Hiring increased by 271 percent in 2 years
KB Kachru, Chairman Emeritus of Radisson Hotel Group and Vice President of HAI, said that hiring has increased by 271 percent in the last two years. The target of 5 crore jobs can be achieved in future. This clearly shows that the business is progressing rapidly. Now we need to focus on tourism of every price range. We have to provide services to people of every income group.
Sector fails to convey its potential to governments
Earlier, Amitabh Kant had appealed to the companies of the sector to approach the governments for industry and infrastructure status. The tourism industry has so far failed to tell politicians that it is creating jobs on a large scale. He said that Thailand has created about 2 crore jobs, Malaysia 1.5 crore and India 78 lakh jobs through tourism.
