See Andra Day’s Look at the 2024 Super Bowl

Andra Day was ready for her close up at the 2024 Super Bowl.

Day, 39, was among the artists who performed before the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers faced off in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Day belted out “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” otherwise known as the Black national anthem, wearing an oversize taupe suit with black buttons and matching shoes, plus gold jewelry.

Day is the fourth artist to perform the song since it was added to the pre-game performance slate in 2021. That year, Alicia Keys sang it in a taped version ahead of the game. In 2022, gospel duo Mary Mary performed the song and in 2023, Sheryl Lee Ralph did.

At a Feb. 9 press conference celebrating the Super Bowl performances, the “Rise Up” singer told Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis that sharing “such an important piece of our culture with the world,” as the interviewer put it, “is an honor.”

“It’s exciting,” Day added. “And it feels intentional. I like to do things with intention and with purpose.”

Speaking with Apple’s New Music Daily Radio Host Eddie Murphy in a clip posted to her Instagram feed on Feb. 8, Day said of her performance, “I want people in their spirits to feel love and I want them to feel healed and I want them to feel hope — and to understand that this is truly a moment of togetherness.”

“Grateful!” Day captioned a post announcing the news of her performance on Jan. 18.

The next day, the award-winning actress and singer made an adorable mention of her performance when she got in on the viral “Of Course” trend

“I’m a singer. Of course I’m performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show,” she said.

A voice can be heard replying, “No you’re not,” to which singer-songwriter then clarified, “Okay, d-mn, I’m singing the Anthem.”
