Earlier there were reports that Iyer would not be a part of the team in the last three Tests due to injury. But now it has become clear that Iyer has been dropped due to poor performance. Former veteran cricketer of Team India, Sanjay Manjrekar has told the reason due to which Iyer was out of Team India.
Shreyas Iyer could not score even a single fifty in the last 13 Test innings. In the four innings played against England, Iyer played innings of 27, 29, 35 and 13 runs. Iyer had good starts on three occasions. However, Iyer failed to convert a good start into a big innings every time. Sanjay Manjrekar has advised Iyer that if he wants to secure a place in the Test, he needs to work on defence.

Manjrekar said, “Iyer will have to decide which format he wants to play.” If Iyer is interested in playing Test cricket then Iyer will have to work on defence. Be it spin or fast bowling. Iyer will have to work on his game. In pressure situations, you cannot survive just by playing attacking games. You should also have defense to compete.
Let us tell you that it was being claimed in the reports that Iyer was injured. But there was no mention of Iyer's injury in the press release issued by BCCI. From this it has become clear that Shreyas Iyer has been shown the way out of Team India due to poor performance. KL Rahul has returned to Team India.
