Punjab Kings did not retain Arshdeep Singh: The IPL world is waiting for the retention list of many teams including Chennai-Mumbai and Bengaluru in IPL 2025. Meanwhile, a shocking update has come out regarding the retention list of Punjab Kings. It was told in a media report that Punjab Kings can retain Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. The non-inclusion of Team India's star fast bowler Arshdeep Singh in this list is very surprising.
According to Cricbuzz, Punjab is going to enter the auction with the highest amount of money. The team has many players who can be retained, but the update is that Punjab can retain only 2 uncapped players in the form of Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. If Punjab retains only 2 uncapped players, it will have Rs 112 crore left in its purse during the auction. According to the report, the management of Punjab believes that Arshdeep is not entitled to be retained for Rs 18 crore. A new update is also that the new head coach of Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting, wants to make Steve Smith the captain of the team.
Arshdeep Singh has been playing for Punjab Kings since 2019 and till 2021 he played for a salary of Rs 20 lakh. But in 2022, his salary increased to Rs 4 crore. Now if he is retained for IPL 2025 for Rs 18 crore, his salary will increase by more than four times.
Arshdeep Singh was in the top-10 in terms of taking most wickets in the last season of IPL. He took 19 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2024. One reason for Punjab not retaining Arshdeep could also be that he had given away runs at an economy rate of more than 10 last season.
