Challenges of NDA Government: After the results of the Lok Sabha elections, the new government has been formed and the swearing-in of the ministers of the NDA government has also been completed. The first cabinet meeting of the new government is going to be held today and it is expected that by evening the portfolio distribution of the ministers i.e. the ministries will also be announced. What kind of challenges are there in front of the new government and what suggestions do the economic experts have for this – on this, former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar has been talked to.

What did former NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar say?

Former Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar on Monday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to deal with the problem of unemployment in the country in its third term, especially in the unorganized sector and small and medium enterprises. Rajiv Kumar also stressed that the government should now finalize the four labor codes as it has been delayed more than expected.

He said, “We have to accept that the economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic has been K-shaped. I think the most important reform the Modi government will have to deal with is the problem of unemployment, especially in the unorganised and small and medium enterprises.”

83% of India's total unemployed population is unemployed youth- ILO report

According to a recent report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), 83 per cent of India's total unemployed population in the year 2022 was unemployed youth. The eminent economist said, “So big companies have done very well and those who are highly skilled have also done well. However, at the lower level people are unemployed and companies are struggling to expand their capacity.”

The former Niti Aayog vice-chairman stressed that privatisation and generating revenue from it is a necessary and important reform step that needs to be taken to reduce India's public debt-to-GDP burden.

Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister on Sunday. He will lead a 72-member Union Council of Ministers. Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar took oath as Cabinet ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
