First Half Century of WPL, Harmanpreet Kaur: The first match of the Women’s Premier League is being played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. This match is being played at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. In this match, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a blistering inning of 65 runs in 30 balls with the help of 14 fours. His strike rate in this innings was 216.67. Harmanpreet Kaur became the first player in the history of Women’s Premier League to score a half-century. In this match, Gujarat Giants won the toss and decided to bowl first.
This bowler got the first wicket of the tournament
In this match Gujarat Giants bowler Tanuja Kanwar took the first wicket. He made Yastika Bhatia the opening batsman of the opposition team walk. Yastika returned to the pavilion after scoring 1 run. Yastika became the first batsman to be dismissed in the tournament.
Mumbai Indians crossed the 200-run mark
In the very first match of the Women’s Premier League, Mumbai Indians crossed the 200-run mark. Batting first, Mumbai posted 207 on the board for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Apart from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, opener Hayley Mathews scored an inning of 47 runs in 31 balls with the help of 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Middle order batsman Amelia Kerr scored 45 runs in 24 balls at a strike rate of 187.50. His innings included a total of 6 fours and a six. Apart from this, Nat Sewer Brunt scored 23 runs in 18 balls, Pooja Vastrakar scored 15 runs in 8 balls, Issy Wong scored 6 runs in 1 ball and Yastika Bhatia scored 1 run in 8 balls.
