Due to non-availability of ambulance in Aheri Gadchiroli, mother and father walked 15 kms carrying dead bodies of children on their shoulders

Gadchiroli: While the state government is talking about development, it has come to light that the basic needs of the citizens in the rural and remote areas of Maharashtra are negligible. Due to the lack of ambulance facilities in Gadchiroli, parents had to walk 15 kilometers carrying the dead bodies of their children. In such a situation, the dependence of the rural people on superstition and old customs instead of medical treatment is equally responsible for the lack of health facilities. This incident took place in Pattigaon of Aheri taluka of Gadchiroli.

What really happened?

The two siblings who came today fell ill with fever. The uneducated parents took them to a priest instead of a hospital and were ambushed there. Within two hours, both of them deteriorated and died. After this incident, the birth parents rushed to the hospital; but it was too late. Finally, he walked 15 kilometers with heavy steps carrying the dead body on his shoulder and reached home. This incident happened on September 4 in Pattigaon, Aheri taluka. The names of the unfortunate siblings are Bajirao Ramesh Veladi (6 years) and Dinesh Ramesh Veladi (3 and a half years, both from Yerragadda, Aheri). Pattigaon is their hometown.

He had come to Pattigaon with his parents two days ago. On September 4, Bajirao developed a fever. Later, Dinesh also fell ill. His parents took him to a priest in the Pattigaon area. There, they were given herbs. Soon after, both their conditions deteriorated. At 10:30 am, Bajirao died, after which the couple took both the siblings to the Jimalgatta Primary Health Center. There, the medical officers examined them and declared them dead. There was no ambulance at the health center at this time. So preparations were made to call an ambulance from Dechlipetha. But Veladi Dapat refused help and took both of them on his shoulders and waited at Pattigaon. Due to drains and muddy roads, it was not possible for vehicles to pass through here. So they had to walk. After this, they called a relative’s bike and reached Pattigaon.

Ambulance was called but relatives did not listen; clarification from district health officials

Gadchiroli’s District Health Officer Dr. Pratap Shinde presented his side. He said that the information about the death of two younger siblings is correct. However, the exact cause of death is not clear. These children were first taken to the priest. He had died before reaching the health center. An attempt was made to bring an ambulance, but the family did not agree. The doctor said, the matter will be investigated and a report will be sought. Pratap Shinde said.
