MCC approves non-striker run out law after Adam Zampa mankading incident in BBL

Cricket Laws: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Thursday clarified the situation in the matter of run out (Mankading) of the batsman at the non-striker’s end. MCC issued a statement saying that there was some ambiguity in the rule, which used to cause confusion, now it has been completely clarified.

After an incident of manding by Australian spinner Adam Zampa in the Big Bash League, the MCC has added some things to the rules related to it. In fact, two weeks ago, Melbourne Stars captain Adam Zampa tried to get Melbourne Renegades batsman Tom Rogers out in a ‘Mankad’ manner but the umpire gave the batsman not out. After completing his follow-through, Zampa was about to throw the ball to McKenzie Harvey when he turned around and blew Rogers’ balls away and signaled to the umpire to get the batsman out.

Here the umpire referred Jampa’s appeal to the TV umpire. Third umpire gave not out. This is because Zampa’s arm went vertically further at the time of ball release. On Thursday, the MCC issued a statement on the BBL incident saying that the umpires made the right decision. The MCC also said that there must have been some doubt due to the wording of the rule. Now the wording of Rule 38.3 has been changed, so that there will be no confusion in the matter of running out the batsman standing on non-strike.

This is how the new rule was clarified
Now the new rule clearly states that, ‘If the batsman standing at the non-striking end is out of the crease at the exact time when the ball is about to leave the bowler’s hand, then in such a situation the bowler will give the batsman standing at the non-striking end. Can’t get out. The previous rule was also the same, but due to the change of words, it seemed that a bowler can dismiss the non-striker at any time through Mankading.
