IPL 2024 Playoffs: The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans to be held in Hyderabad on Thursday has been canceled due to rain. Due to the cancellation of the match, SRH has got one point, due to which the team has qualified for the playoffs. Hyderabad has now become the third team to reach the playoffs of IPL 2024. SRH now has 15 points from 14 matches and the team has reached third place in the points table. If Hyderabad also wins its next match, then after that there will be a chance to go to the top-2. Since Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have a very low net run-rate, it is almost impossible for them to make it to the playoffs.
3 teams have qualified for the playoffs
In IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders became the first team to go to the playoffs. KKR currently has 19 points after 9 wins in 13 matches. If they win the next match, they will have 21 points and if we talk about the facts, now no one can remove Kolkata from the first position. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have 16 points after 8 wins and RR still have one match left in the league stage. Now Sunrisers Hyderabad has become the third team to qualify with 15 points.
3 teams are eliminated and 2 are almost out
On one hand, KKR, RR and SRH have qualified for the playoffs. On the other hand, the path to the playoffs is completely closed for 3 teams. Mumbai Indians became the first team to be eliminated, who currently have 8 points and can have only 10 points if they win the last match. After that, the card of Punjab Kings was cut, which is currently sitting at ninth position in the table with 10 points. Due to the cancellation of the last match against KKR, the playoff hopes for Gujarat Titans were also lost.
Apart from this, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals are on the verge of being eliminated. If SRH had lost both its matches in the league stage, the hopes of DC and LSG of reaching the top-4 could have increased. But now SRH has 15 points, so it is not possible for Delhi and Lucknow to reach 15 points. Now there can be a chance for Delhi and Lucknow only if RCB wins against CSK by a huge and unbelievable margin.
The fourth team will be decided on May 18
After three teams reached the playoffs, all eyes are on the CSK vs RCB match to be held on May 18. Chennai Super Kings still has one match left and has 14 points, while the team's net run-rate is +0.528. On the other hand, if Bengaluru wants to qualify, they will have to defeat CSK in the next match at all costs. RCB also has a condition, because while defending the score, Bengaluru will have to ensure that it wins by a margin of 18 runs or more. While chasing, Virat Kohli's team will have to achieve the target in 18.1 or less overs. There are a lot of difficulties for RCB, but if Chennai wins the last match then it will directly reach the playoffs.
The battle for top-2 also became interesting
On one hand, it is now impossible to remove KKR from number one. But the battle between SRH and RR to get the second slot has become interesting. If Rajasthan loses to Kolkata Knight Riders in the next match, Hyderabad is able to defeat Punjab Kings in its last match. In such a situation, SRH will reach second place with 17 points. Let us tell you that the team finishing under the top-2 in the table gets 2 chances to reach the finals. In such a situation, Rajasthan and Hyderabad would like to win their next match at any cost. Apart from this, the teams ranked third and fourth have to overcome the challenge of the eliminator and then pass through the qualifiers to reach the finals.
