Government oil company Indian Oil is preparing to use nuclear power in its refinery to promote clean energy. For this, the oil company is preparing to partner with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

Alok, R&D Director of Indian Oil. Sharma gave this information on Wednesday. He was attending a conference in Delhi. He said that Indian Oil plans to install small nuclear reactors in the refinery, so that more clean energy can be used. For this, the company is in talks with NPCIL and is preparing to form a partnership.
Dependence on the traditional grid will be reduced
Both the companies will together explore the possibilities of using electricity from the refinery. In this way, small modular reactor i.e. SMR can be used. This will reduce the refinery's dependence on the traditional grid. For the use of refinery, there is a need to install grid and plant on a large scale. Due to delay in many big power projects, options are also being considered.
Private companies may get approval
According to an ET report, many big power projects in the country Projects are facing the problem of delays. For this reason, policymakers are promoting small-scale nuclear technology with a capacity of up to 300 MW. SMR i.e. small nuclear reactors can not only be built in less time, but they are also easier to operate. The government is also considering giving approval to private companies to manage and operate these small nuclear reactors.
These companies are also showing interest
Right now such small nuclear reactors are Not only Indian Oil, but many big government companies are taking interest in modular nuclear reactor. NTPC and ONGC are also included among them. While NTPC works for power generation, ONGC is a major oil and gas exploration company.
