Russia became the biggest supplier

According to statistics, for the first time India’s import of crude oil from Russia has increased to 1 million barrels per day in December 2022. This is the third consecutive month when Russia has emerged as the biggest supplier for India. Russia used to contribute only 0.2 per cent of India’s total crude oil imports till the year ending March 31, 2022. In December, it has supplied 11.9 lakh barrels of crude oil per day to India.

Import increased for three months

In the month of November 2022, India’s import from Russia was 9,09,403 barrels per day. In October, 2022 it was 9,35,556 barrels per day. The previous record of highest crude oil import from Russia was made in June, 2022. At that time, India bought 9,42,694 barrels of crude oil per day from Russia. Russia became India’s major crude oil supplier for the first time in October 2022, leaving traditional sellers behind. Now Russia’s share in India’s total crude oil imports has increased to 25 percent.

According to reports, a price limit has been agreed upon between the European Union on crude oil coming through the sea to Russia. India’s crude oil import from Russia is on the rise. $60 per barrel has been agreed upon for Russian oil. After this India is getting supply of cheap oil.

India is the world’s third largest oil consumer

According to Vortexa, India is the third largest oil consumer and importer in the world. It imports 85 percent of its crude oil requirement. Crude oil is easily converted into fuels like petrol and diesel in the country’s refineries. India has imported 8,03,228 barrels per day of crude oil from Iraq and 7,18,357 barrels per day from Saudi Arabia in December. The United Arab Emirates has been India’s fourth largest oil supplier in December 2022 with 3,23,811 barrels per day.
