Sitting in front of a laptop for 9 hours straight?

People who work from 9 to 5 and sit in front of the laptop for 9 hours continuously have to face many eye-related problems. One of these is “Computer Vision Syndrome” which is also known as Digital Eye Strain. Many people are not aware of it, due to which the person is unable to recognize the early symptoms of the problem and then the problem worsens. Therefore, everyone should know about “Computer Vision Syndrome”. According to an interview conducted by Health Shots to know more about this, ophthalmologist Dr. Dheeraj Gupta has given many information related to this issue. Let's know what is this disease and why does it happen? Let's know some important tips to avoid it.

What do experts say about computer vision syndrome?

According to doctors, “Computer vision syndrome is an eye problem caused by computers. This happens when we keep looking at the computer screen for a long time. It is generally believed that the blue light emitted from the screen is harmful to the eyes, but this is completely wrong. The blue light emitted from the screen does not cause any harm to the eyes, because the blue light is very low. “The main cause of eye damage is looking at the screen for too long continuously. The smaller the screen, the greater the damage. Our eyelids do not blink when we look at the computer screen, so our eyes become very dry. This problem is further aggravated in people who already suffer from dryness. This problem can affect people of any age, from children of 8 to 9 years. The effect of computer vision syndrome depends on the way of working and the size of the screen used. The smaller the screen, the greater the damage, thus increasing the risk of using the phone. Therefore, its effect on the desktop is minimal.

Symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer vision syndrome is an eye problem that occurs due to prolonged computer use

Eye irritation (dry eyes, itchy eyes, red eyes)
Gray vision
Headache
back pain
Unhappiness
muscle fatigue

Although it does not cause permanent damage to the eyes, its painful symptoms can affect your performance at work and home. However, there are several ways to avoid this problem, which is very important to follow.

What are the ways to avoid this? Find out

Keep your computer organized

Place your computer screen 20 to 28 inches away from your eyes. Sitting too close to a digital screen can increase your risk of eye strain. Hold the screen slightly below eye level, about 4 to 5 inches away. Tilt the top of the screen back about 10 to 20 degrees. Make sure you don't bend your neck up or down to see the screen.

Frequent blinking

Blinking keeps the moisture in your eyes from drying out. If you don't blink, your eyes can become dry and irritated. When looking at a computer or digital screen, you don't blink as often as you normally would. You blink 66 percent less when working on a computer.

Use proper glasses

If you wear glasses, make sure your prescription is correct. Wearing the wrong prescription can make it difficult for your eyes to focus properly. This can increase your eye strain and risk of headaches. If your glasses are for distance, reading, or both, you will need new glasses to view digital screens.

Follow the 20, 20, 20 rule

Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. If you don't remember to repeat this, when you need to remember or think about something in the middle of work, take your eyes off the screen, close it, and then think about it.

Choose a bigger screen to work on

According to experts, the bigger the screen, the less damage it will cause to your eyes. So work on a desktop with a big screen. Limit the use of mobile phones as much as possible, as it puts more strain on the eyes.

do not let your eyes dry

If you suffer from dry eyes, use the eye drops prescribed by your doctor regularly. Also, wear the glasses recommended by your doctor before using the computer screen.
